Construction & Waterproof Technology

We built NuCore Oxford Oak on a rigid core platform that stands up to moisture, temperature fluctuations, and structural movement better than traditional floating floors. The waterproof construction means spills, pet accidents, and humidity won’t compromise the integrity of your floor — a critical advantage in spaces where wood or laminate would fail.

The rigid core layer provides dimensional stability that prevents the warping and buckling common in earlier vinyl products. We bond the decorative layer and wear surface directly to this core, creating a monolithic structure that maintains its profile even in challenging installations. The attached cork underlayment adds acoustic performance and a softer feel underfoot while maintaining the waterproof barrier from subfloor to surface.

Authentic Oak Visuals & Texture

We captured the grain patterns, color variation, and natural character of premium oak through advanced imaging and embossing technology. Each plank differs slightly from the next, replicating the organic variation you’d find in solid hardwood without the moisture sensitivity or maintenance requirements.

The registered emboss process aligns the surface texture precisely with the printed grain, so the tactile experience matches what your eyes see. This attention to detail creates a convincing hardwood presentation that stands up to close inspection. The medium brown tones with subtle gray undertones give Oxford Oak versatility across design styles from farmhouse to contemporary.

Room Coverage & Layout Planning

Each carton of NuCore Oxford Oak covers approximately 23.64 square feet and contains planks in our 7.25-inch wide format. We recommend ordering 10% extra material to account for cuts, waste, and future repairs. The wide plank dimensions create fewer seams and a more expansive feel compared to narrower formats common in luxury vinyl plank collections.

For best results, stagger end joints at least 12 inches between adjacent rows and maintain a 50-pound rolling load limit on office chairs. The floating installation requires a 1/4-inch expansion gap at all vertical surfaces including walls, cabinets, and doorways. We offer coordinating quarter-round, T-molding, and reducer strips to create professional transitions between rooms and floor types.

Installed in our entire first floor
We put NuCore Oxford Oak throughout our kitchen, dining room, and entry last month. The color works perfectly with our cabinets and the installation was easier than we expected. I was nervous about doing it ourselves but the click system made it manageable even for beginners.

Survived our puppy's first year
Our golden retriever puppy put this floor through everything — water bowl spills, muddy paws, zoomies with toys. Oxford Oak still looks brand new after a year. I just sweep and mop weekly and it maintains that fresh-installed appearance.

Better than expected for the price
I was skeptical about vinyl flooring but needed something waterproof for our basement. The Oxford Oak looks way more realistic than I anticipated. Guests actually think it's real hardwood until I tell them otherwise.

Great product, plan your transitions
The flooring itself is excellent quality and the installation went smoothly in our open-concept main level. My only advice is to really think through your transition pieces at doorways — we had to order additional trim after the fact. The floor itself gets five stars.

Perfect for rental property durability
We own several rental units and chose NuCore Oxford Oak for three of them this year. It holds up to tenant wear much better than laminate and we can clean between tenants without special equipment. The waterproof feature has already saved us from one washing machine leak incident.

Warm underfoot with the cork backing
I really notice the difference the attached underlayment makes compared to our previous vinyl. Oxford Oak feels warmer and softer when walking barefoot, and we've noticed less noise transmission to the basement below. Very pleased with our choice.

Good to know

Oxford Oak Product Questions

Yes, Oxford Oak is compatible with radiant heating systems as long as the surface temperature does not exceed 85°F. We recommend turning off the system 48 hours before installation, then gradually increasing temperature by 5°F per day after installation until you reach your desired setting. Always check your radiant system manufacturer's specifications for flooring compatibility and maintain proper temperature limits to preserve your warranty coverage.

Our waterproof rigid core construction makes Oxford Oak an excellent choice for below-grade spaces including basements and garden-level rooms. Unlike laminate or hardwood that can warp from moisture vapor, the vinyl composition resists humidity and minor flooding. We recommend installing a 6-mil polyethylene vapor barrier over concrete subfloors and ensuring your basement has adequate drainage and humidity control for long-term performance.

NuCore features a rigid core construction that's thicker and more stable than flexible vinyl planks. This rigid platform prevents the denting and compression common in softer vinyl products while adding dimensional stability. We also include attached cork underlayment in every Oxford Oak plank for superior sound dampening and comfort. The combination delivers a more solid feel underfoot similar to laminate or engineered hardwood.

No additional underlayment is required because we attach cork padding to the back of each plank during manufacturing. This integrated underlayment provides acoustic insulation and cushioning while maintaining the waterproof integrity of the floor system. Adding extra padding would void your warranty and potentially interfere with the locking mechanism. For concrete subfloors, use only a thin vapor barrier rather than foam underlayment.

Individual planks can be replaced without disturbing the entire floor in most cases. For planks near walls or room edges, disassemble the floor from the nearest edge to reach the damaged piece. For center-floor repairs, carefully cut out the damaged plank with a circular saw set to plank depth, remove the tongues from the replacement plank, and glue it into the opening. We recommend keeping spare planks from your original purchase for future repairs.

Oxford Oak carries a 10-year commercial warranty for light-traffic applications including offices, boutiques, and small retail spaces. The 20 mil wear layer provides good resistance to foot traffic and rolling loads. For heavy commercial use or high-traffic retail environments, we recommend consulting our commercial flooring specialists to determine if Oxford Oak meets your durability requirements or if a heavier wear layer product would better suit your needs.

We do not recommend steam mops or excessive water for cleaning NuCore Oxford Oak. While the floor itself is waterproof, steam heat can damage the wear layer and affect the locking system over time. Use a damp mop with pH-neutral vinyl cleaner for routine maintenance. The urethane wear layer cleans easily without requiring steam or harsh chemicals to maintain its appearance.
