Old Barn Oak replicates the visual depth of salvaged barn lumber through multi-tonal color blending and strategic knot placement. We photographed actual reclaimed oak boards to create the visual layer, then added random plank variation so no two pieces repeat within typical room installations.
The hand-scraped surface texture follows the wood grain direction with deeper channels around knots and natural checking patterns. Wire brushing highlights the grain peaks while recessed areas show darker staining that mimics decades of weathering. Waterproof rigid core technology
Core composition
Our rigid core combines virgin vinyl resin with limestone powder in a high-density composite that resists expansion and contraction. This stability allows Old Barn Oak installation over concrete slabs, radiant heat systems, and existing flooring without transition strips in openings up to 50 feet. The waterproof construction makes it ideal for finished basements and laundry rooms where traditional luxury vinyl plank options might require additional moisture barriers.
Underlayment system
We permanently bond 1.5mm cross-linked polyethylene foam to every plank during manufacturing. Installation requirements & preparation
Old Barn Oak installs as a floating floor using our Quick-Lock edge system that angles and drops into place without adhesive. Subfloors must be clean, level within 3/16″ over 10 feet, and structurally sound. We recommend acclimating cartons in the installation room for 48 hours at temperatures between 65-85°F.
The planks require a 1/4″ expansion gap at all vertical surfaces including walls, cabinets, and door casings.
